Ginny Brunton
Ginny Brunton is a Research Officer at the Social Science Research Unit, Faculty of Children and Learning. Her research interests include maternity policy, health inequalities, and research methods. She is a practising midwife at The Rosie Hospital, Cambridge University & Addenbrookes NHS Trust.
Mothers play a key role in the health of families. As with any positive, adaptive experience, a problematic transition to motherhood can have long-lasting effects on both women and their families. Considerable research on women's experiences of motherhood has been undertaken over the past 30 years, whilst women's lives and maternity services have changed dramatically. The review is intended to inform practice about how best to support new mothers, and advances the methodology of research synthesis in the social sciences, an important challenge confronted by researchers endeavouring to inform the policy-making process.
