Senior Leadership Team
The Institute's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) supports the Director, Professor Chris Husbands, in his overall leadership and management of the Institute.  The Director is the Head of the Institute and the accountable officer.  He has delegated responsibility from the Council for the executive management of the Institute and its policies.

The Senior Leadership Team comprises senior staff with strategic and operational responsibilities for the Institute's academic and professional functions.  In addition to the Director, its members are:

Pro-Director: Strategy & Organisation / Institute Secretary
The Pro-Director: Strategy & Organisation, Steve Denton, is responsible for the effective performance and development of the Institute's professional and support activities underpinning our academic mission.  The Pro-Director: Strategy & Organisation is also the Institute Secretary and as such supports the Council (the governing body), the Senate and the Academic Board and oversees the Institute's Corporate Governance arrangements.

Pro-Director: Learning & International, and Pro-Director: Research & Development
Dr Mary Stiasny, Pro-Director: Learning & International; and Professor Michael Reiss, Pro-Director: Research & Development are responsible to the Director for the strategic oversight of the range, quality and consistency of academic activities and the maintenance of standards within their areas of responsibility. 

Deans of Faculty
The Institute's Academic Departments are organised into two Faculties and the Doctoral School.  The Deans are responsible for the academic and professional management and performance of the Faculties and the Doctoral School. Professor Susan Hallam is Dean of the Faculty of Policy and Society; Professor Richard Andrews is Dean of the Faculty of Children and Learning; and Professor Andrew Tolmie is Dean of the Doctoral School.

Director of Finance & Estates
The Director of Finance & Estates, Habte Hagos, is responsible for overseeing the Finance Strategy, financial performance, and finance systems and compliance; and advising the Leadership team and Council in relation to these.  He also oversees the work of Estates and Facilities, the Conference office and Catering, Residences and the Nursery.

Extended Senior Leadership Team
The extended Senior Leadership Team incorporates the management of the academic and support departments of the Institute of Education and the strategic advisors to the Director.  Its members are:

Assistant Directors
Assistant Directors are appointed by the Director to lead specific initiatives or projects linked to Institute-wide strategic priorities. 

Heads of Academic Departments
The nine Heads of Academic Departments lead and manage the academic departments with the Institute's Faculties supporting the Deans of Faculty in carrying out their responsibilities.

Heads of Support Departments
The Heads of Support Departments lead and manage the professional and support service departments of the Institute. 

Heads of Faculty Administration/ the Doctoral School
The Heads of Faculty Administration and of Doctoral School Administration lead and manage the devolved support functions within each the Faculty and the Doctoral School and support the Deans of Faculties and of the Doctoral School in carrying out their responsibilities.

Deputy Secretary
The Deputy Secretary is responsible for leading on planning and performance for the IOE. This includes responsibilities for co-ordinating statutory returns, and other key responses to stakeholders, the implementation of the strategic review and the development of the Strategic Planning Statement.

Head of Policy and Public Affairs
The Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Dr Emma Wisby, is responsible for raising the profile of IOE activities in political and public fora, as well as monitoring developments, briefing senior colleagues and drafting responses, both direct and strategic, to developments in these areas. She also attends and supports the weekly Senior Leadership Team meetings.
