  • Overview:
    • I was a primary school teacher for almost 20 years. I completed my PhD at the Institute in 2001, which was about masculinity in the junior school. I currently work 3 days a week (0.6) as a senior lecturer/researcher in the National Research and Development Centre for adult literacy and numeracy (NRDC). From 2006-2014 I was Programme leader for the MPhil/PhD. The majority of the research I carry out is qualitative and I have a particular interest in gender (masculinities and femininities), identities, primary school teaching and learning, family literacy, and adult basic skills in the post-compulsory sector. I am currently editing, and writing chapters, for a book for doctoral students based on different research designs, which is due to be published in summer 2015.
  • Teaching:
    • Although I have extensive teaching experience (mainly with doctoral students), I am currently concentrating on my research, writing and supervision. I currently supervise 2 Mphil/PhD and 4 EdD students.
