The Centre for Multimodal Research (CMR) is a network of scholars at the Institute of Education and beyond, coming together to augment and undertake research in multimodality across the IOE.
The CMR mission is to generate synergy through collaboration and in this way to contribute to the development of the multimodal research community locally at the IOE, nationally and internationally.

The focus of CMR is broad. Its interests include:
• Social semiotics
• Multimodal methodology
• Multimodal methods
• Multimodal discourse
• Theorising learning as a multimodal process
• Digitally mediated learning and teaching
• Re-thinking assessment in the light of multimodality
• The pedagogic design and use of multimodal learning resources
• The body and gesture in representation and communication
• Sites of multimodal learning: the classroom, the operating theatre and the museum
• Identity
