The Centre for Multimodal Research undertakes research and offers training courses and consultancy services in the following areas:

Including studies of the use of speech, gesture, image, typography and writing;

Including studies of Language, Science and Medical Education;

Technology and New Media
Including studies of screen, tangible and mobile technologies and social media.

Research Methods
Including visual, video and multimodal methods


We explore these issues across different sites, including schools, museums, workplaces and online environments, using ethnographic, video-based, interactional, discourse-analytic and textual methods of analysis drawn from social semiotics, ethnomethodology, linguistics, museum studies, graphic design and other disciplines.
