Producing better methods to fully exploit administrative data is important because it provides researchers with the capacity to analyse and solve social problems that currently cannot be analysed effectively.

The advantage of administrative datasets is that they have information on almost everybody - they are effectively a census of individuals. One of the disadvantages of administrative datasets is that they typically do not contain very rich information. The advantage of survey data is that it is rich. The disadvantage however, is that often surveys suffer from non response and attrition. Linking survey and administrative can overcome some of these difficulties with both types of data.

ADMIN explores how best to use administrative datasets that have become available in the UK by linking these data sets to richer survey data, and how to enhance longitudinal survey data by linking it to available administrative data.
