Spring Term Seminar 2012
Visibility, Recognition and Assessment
Venue: Institute of Education, 20 Bedford Way, London
Date: 16th February 2012, 18:00-20:00
The Centre for Multimodal Research (CMR) is planning a seminar on Visibility, Recognition and Assessment for the Spring term 2012. Questions to be considered include:
What is visible in processes of learning, and what goes unrecognized?
What is recognized but is bypassed?
Challenging notions of assessment prevalent in contemporary educational and academic discourse.
With the emergence of multimodal ways of investigation, issues around learning re-emerge. If meaning is realized in a multiplicity of modes, how do we recognize learning? How might this have implications for academic theory and methodology, and for policy and practice?
Two speakers will be presenting insight from their most recent research:
John Yandell: "Role-play in secondary English class-rooms: bringing powers of persuasion into view"
Jeff Bezemer: "Recognizing Practical knowledge in the operating theatre: A Social Semiotic perspective on clinical Work"
To book a place on this seminar please email Anna Waring: a.waring@ioe.ac.uk or call 020 7763 2199
