Professor Andy Green speaks at ISA Conference

Andy Green gave the opening keynote address to the International Sociological Association Conference on 'Social Justice and Participation: The Role of Higher Education', at the University of Cyprus, on 25 November 2011. His topic was 'Higher Education and the Crisis for European Youth.' 


Professor Lorna Unwin

LLAKES Deputy Director, Lorna Unwin, gave a keynote presentation at a conference organised by the National Apprenticeship Service and held as part of World Skills in London on 5 October 2011. Team UK (36 competitors) came 6th in the medal table out of 48 countries, winning 4 gold medals (bricklaying, plumbing and heating, stonemasonry, and visual merchandising), 2 silver, 6 bronze, and 12 Medallions of Excellence.  See http://www.worldskillslondon2011.com/ for more details.

Lorna has also been invited join the panel of judges for the TES Further Education Awards 2011, sponsored by the Learning Skills Improvement Service (LSIS). Gerard Kelly, editor of the TES, said: "The TES FE Awards are an opportunity to recognise the dedication and expertise of staff in FE who transform the lives of learners. These nominees represent some of the best of this amazing and dynamic sector."  The results will be announced at a ceremony in London on 11 November 2011.
