National and International Partnerships
Partners
The Institute collaborates with a wide range of local, national and international partners including government departments, universities, charities and industry.
Local Partnerships
- The Institute's London Education Research Unit works in partnership with London Challenge, the Office of the Mayor, Government Office for London and other London agencies to initiate and produce new research focusing on education in London.
- Bringing together social scientists from the Institute and scientists from Birkbeck the London Knowledge Lab, based at the IOE, conducts research into how digital technologies can enhance learning and has already secured 14 EC-funded projects. As one of the Bloomsbury colleges (IOE, Birkbeck, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), Royal Veterinary College, School of Oriental and African Studies and School of Pharmacy) the Institute is leading in a strategic collaboration which fosters shared research interests between the colleges.
- The Institute has a number of local partnerships including the Centre for Economics Education which is co-hosted by IOE, the London School of Economics (LSE) and the Institute for Fiscal Studies.
National and International Partnerships
- The IOE has partnerships with many national and international Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and from 2001 to 2007 collaborated with half of all UK universities and with HEIs in 22 of the 26 EU member states.
- The Institute hosts the National Research and Development Centre for Adult Literacy and Numeracy (NRDC) which is a consortium involving five other universities (King's College London, Lancaster, Nottingham, Sheffield, and London South Bank University) and several other agencies, with the aim of using research and development to improve practice in, and inform government policy regarding, adult literacy and numeracy.
- The Institute works in partnership with the University of Wisconsin and the University of Melbourne as part of the 'Three Deans' partnership, with the aim of bringing a global perspective to the development of academic and professional excellence in education
- The Institute is part of the 'International Alliance', bringing together universities in Australia, Canada, Denmark, China, Singapore, South Korea and the USA, and collaborates with universities in Brazil, India and Pakistan.Promoting partnerships with researchers and policymakers the IOE's London International Development Centre, supported by a grant of £3.7 million from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) Strategic Development Fund, has formed links within Africa, Asia and other developing regions.
- Individual specialist centres based at the IOE have many links with other researchers. The Centre for Longitudinal Studies has worked researchers from around the world including France, Ireland, Sweden, China, Israel, USA, Korea, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.
