About the Library and Archives

Message from the Head of Library Services

The Institute aims to have a Library and Archives of international standard and significance.  My colleagues and I are committed to achieving that aim by building library collections and providing services to support all teaching, research and learning at the Institute, both now and in the future.  The collections are, of course ,both physical and virtual.  Electronic journals and other resources are now a key part of our standard library service and have transformed the contribution that the library makes to the work of all Institute students and staff.  Print, manuscript and other non-digital materials remain equally important and in demand.  The provision of high quality space for individual and collaborative work over extended opening hours at the Institute itself is another key part of our support role.

IOE librarians and archivists are highly skilled, knowledgeable and have a clear focus on the needs of users – we recognise the need to engage with you to understand your library and information needs and to provide services which satisfy and if possible anticipate them.   We have negotiated borrowing and access arrangements with other libraries to provide easy access to even more extensive resources than are provided.

These web pages provide a full view of all that the Library and Archives provides to students and staff of the Institute and also to visitors.  We welcome feedback and suggestions about them and about any of our services or collections.
