- Before joining the Centre for the Study of Children, Youth and Media, Mandy worked in the Institute of Education and the Film, Media Studies and Journalism department at the University of Stirling. She taught on a wide variety of education and film and media studies courses and was responsible for running the pre-service qualification in Media Studies. Mandy has also taught Film Studies at the University of Edinburgh and Media and Cultural Policy at the University of Glasgow.
- Research Projects:
- ESRC funded Developing Media Literacy: Towards a Model of Learning Progression (RES-062-23-1292).
- Postgraduate Research:
- Completed a PhD with the Film Media and Journalism department at the University of Stirling in 2010 on the socio-political origins and development of media education in Scotland. Her research interests include: the social, political and cultural contexts constituting relations between media and education institutions in the UK; the historiography of media in education; media, education and learning; curriculum change and teacher identity; media culture and national identity.
- Professional Activities:
- Mandy has worked as an examiner for the Scottish Qualifications Authority, as a specialist adviser on Media Studies to the General Teaching Council for Scotland and has been a member of the Education Committee of Scottish Screen. She has also been an advisor to the Wellcome Trust at its Performing Arts and Media Advisory Group.
