  • Summary:
    • My main research interests are contemporary art and artists in education, gallery education, gender and identity politics, initial and continuing professional development for art and design educators and built environment education. I also have a keen interest in the internationalisation of Initial Teacher Education.

    • • Learning in the contemporary art gallery: Co-Investigator 'En-Quire: Critical Minds' jointly funded by DCMS and DfES as part of the Strategic Commissioning initiative and managed by engage for the Arts Council England (2004-2006)

      • Co-Director: Museums and Galleries and the Continuing Professional Development of Art and Design Teachers, a two year collaborative project (2001-2003) 'Creative Connections' with the Victoria and Albert Museum, funded by the DfES (now DCFS) and DCMS.

      The research aimed to identify the most effective and sustainable way to develop teachers' confidence and skills to use museums and galleries as a learning resource. It identified teachers' perceptions of their support and training needs and developed a model for effective INSET/CPD. Central to the project was the engagement of Art and Design teachers as action researchers investigating different ways of interpreting museum and gallery exhibits in order to identify innovative methods to teach critically and creatively.
  • Professional Activities:
    • I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of the National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD).
      • 2009: Australian Arts Board (International visitor), Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney. Running a pilot training course for artists in gallery education building on work she developed with the Arts Council Scotland in 2003/2005.
      • 2008-2010: Peer Reviewer for the Leonardo Da Vinci EU Partnership Lifelong Learning programme: Older Workers in Learning (OWL).
      • 1999-2006: Trustee of Camden Arts Centre.
