  • Summary:
    • My main research interests are based around contemporary art practice, particularly sculpture, creativity, gallery education, urban pedagogy, initial and continuing professional development for art and design educators. I also have a keen interest in the internationalisation of Initial Teacher Education.

  • Postgraduate Research:
    • • 'Internationalisation of the PGCE Secondary Course: developing links with Turku University, Finland'. This was a partnership between IOE and Turku contributing to the Bologna Declaration, funded by Erasmus, developing student mobility and the European dimension to ITE.

      • 'Forms of experience: Engaging with 20th Century Sculpture'. Joint fund holder and director with Tina Melbourne education curator Tate Britain. This was a research project funded by Tate Britain and the Henry Moore Foundation and involved 10 London Secondary schools.
      • 'Key factors in the promotion and obstruction of reflective practice in beginner teachers'. This was a pilot project with Dr. Alex Moore funded by University of London. It involved the tracking of 10 Beginning Teachers during their PGCE year.
  • Professional Activities:
    • • I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and I have been an active member of the National Society for Education in Art & Design (NSEAD) since 1987. In 2008 I was elected to the Editorial Board for the International Journal Art & Design Education, NSEAD.
      • Chief External Examiner for the PGCE Secondary course, Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge (2004-2008)
      • Principle External Examiner for the Teach First programme at the University of Manchester (2007-present)
      • External Examiner for Combined Honours in Art at Newman University College (2008-present)
      • Peer Reviewer for the Leonardo Da Vinci EU Partnership Lifelong Learning programme: Older Workers in Learning (OWL). (2008-2010)
