  • Summary:
    • My research interests include early childhood pedagogy and the early years of primary schooling, school starting age, play pedagogy. Recent research projects have looked at Outdoor pedagogy in Foundation Stage and Year 1 Classes (ESRC), Role Play in Reception Classes (ESRC) and student and practitioner perspectives on the Early Years Foundation Stage.

    • I contribute to a range of courses including the B.Ed and MA Early Years Education.

      - Economic and Social Research Council co-investigator Opportunities afforded by the outdoors for alternative pedagogies as children move from Foundation Stage to Year 1 with University of Plymouth, (2009-2011)
  • Postgraduate Research:
    • I am interested in supervising students on all aspects of early years education and in particular with interests in play pedagogy, the early years of primary education, children's perspectives in research.
  • Professional Activities:
    • Currently I am on the editorial boards of the British Journal of Educational Studies and the International Journal of Early Years Education. I am also a member of the Society of Educational Studies Executive.
