- Summary:
- I have researched areas relating to children and young people, inclusion, children's rights, the arts and therapy for a number of years.
My books have been translated and published in Chinese, Korean and Greek. Sole authored texts include 'Rethinking Childhood' (2009 Continuum), 'The Arts Therapies' (2005 Routledge), 'Drama As Therapy' (2007 Routledge) and the co-authored 'Rethinking Children's Rights' with Welch (2010 Continuum). Edited books include 'Children's Rights in Practice' (2011 with Walker, Sage) and 'Childhood: Services and Provision for Children' (2007 with Moss, Tomlinson and Welch, Pearson). I am series editor of Continuum's 'New Childhoods' . Research articles have featured in 'The European Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy' and 'The Arts in Psychotherapy'.
I have delivered key notes at a variety of international conferences including those held at De Witts University, Johannesburg, Yong-In University, Seoul, New York University and the World Congress of Psychotherapy in Sydney.

- Postgraduate Research:
- My research engages with a variety of issues concerning childhood, inclusive education and empowerment. I am especially interested in the emergence of children's rights, the relationship between the arts, communication and well being in children's lives and multi-agency work - in particular concerning therapeutic support for children.
Doctoral supervision includes the following subjects: inclusive education in different international contexts; therapeutic work with children; play and play work; arts therapies work with children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties; children and young people in care and their experience of education
