Dr Eirini Geraniou

  • Qualifications and position:
    • BSc (Hons), MSc, PhD
    • Lecturer in Mathematics Education
  • Faculty:
    • Faculty of Children and Learning
  • Department:
    • Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment
  • Summary:
    • Before joining the Institute of Education, Dr Geraniou's teaching activity included the Secondary Mathematics PGCE and subject knowledge enhancement programmes at the University of Southampton where she worked as a lecturer. Her research work focuses on the educational design of material and accompanying pedagogical scenarios and activities for mathematics. She implements mathematics education research in real classroom settings, supporting students as well as teachers throughout their interactions with innovative digital media. Before becoming a lecturer, she was a Research Officer on the MiGen project at the London Knowledge Lab. She has also worked as a mathematics teacher.

Dr Geraniou completed her ESRC-funded PhD in mathematics education at the University of Warwick. She also holds an MSc in Mathematics Education at the University of Warwick and a first class honours degree in mathematics at the University of Crete in Greece. Her research interests include teaching and learning mathematics with ICT, algebraic ways of thinking, collaborative learning, students' motivation in learning mathematics and advanced mathematical thinking.
