- Summary:
- Prof. Lucinda Platt is PI of the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS).
Her main research interests are in child poverty, ethnic minority disadvantage and identity, religion and migration, and in bringing longitudinal insights, resources and techniques to these areas. Prior to joining CLS in 2011, Lucinda was based at the Institute for Social and Economic Research at the University of Essex and was co-Investigator for Understanding Society, the UK Household Longitudinal Study. She has maintained her involvement with Understanding Society for which she leads on the ethnicity strand.
- Teaching:
- Lucinda has extensive experience of teaching and examining at both undergraduate and graduate level and of supervising PhD students. She is currently External Examiner for Sociology MSc programmes at the University of Bristol. She is interested in supervising research students in the areas of: child poverty and poverty dynamics; ethnic inequalities; ethnicity and identity; social mobility; and labour market inequalities.
- Research Projects:
- • Socio-cultural Integration of New Immigrants in Europe (SCIP). Funded by NORFACE, this four-country, cross- national project investigates the experiences of new migrants in their first few years following migration and the factors associated with enhanced integration.
• 500 Families: Migration Histories of Turks in Europe(LineUp). Funded by NORFACE, this study tracks the families of those men who migrated from four regions in Turkey to countries in Europe in the 1960s and 1970s.
• The effect and value of judicial review in England and Wales. Funded by the Nuffield Foundation.
• Social patterning of multiple risk behaviours among parents with dependent children. Funded by the Department of Health as part of the Public Health Research Consortium, this study investigates the factors associated with the experience of multiple health risks across families with children.
• Promoting methodological innovation and capacity building in research on ethnicity. An NCRM-funded network, this project presents and debates issues in measurement and analysis of ethnic inequalities.
• Co-Investigator, The UK 2012 Birth Cohort Study of environment, development, health and wellbeing.
• Co-Investigator, Understanding Society: The UK Household Longitudinal Study.
