Degree Awarding Powers and your Award
The Institute of Education was granted taught and research Degree Awarding Powers (DAPs) in 2006. The Institute resolved to effect those powers and award its own degrees (rather than degrees of the University of London) to all Institute of Education students registering from 2008/2009.
New students registering from September 2008: Students registering for a new programme from September 2008, who successfully complete, will automatically receive an Institute of Education award.
Continuing students registering from September 2008: If you are a Master's, PGCE, Foundation Degree or BEd Student returning to the Institute in 2008/2009, and if you have remained fully registered on a taught programme for at least one more academic year after September 2008, you will have the option to receive an Institute of Education or a University of London award. Please visit the following link to indicate whether you wish to receive an Institute of Education or University of London degree certificate: http://link.lkl.ac.uk/ioedap. Students who fulfil this criteria and who do not indicate their choice will automatically default to a University of London degree.
Apart from enabling the transition from awarding University of London to Institute of Education degrees, the exercise of DAPs will have no major impact on the Institute of Education community. It will be 'business as usual' for students and staff alike, and the Institute of Education will remain a constituent college of the University of London.
If you have any questions regarding the Institute's Degree Awarding Powers, please see our FAQs or email exams@ioe.ac.uk.
