Find a programme

We offer a range of study programmes and modes of study (including online options), to suit your needs. Read the information below to assess your goal and then select the most appropriate programme for you to achieve it:

I already have a research goal or proposal
If you already have an idea of what you want to research and an understanding of research methods, then we offer doctoral degrees which will help you to develop a thesis and conduct your investigation. These programmes usually require work experience in a relevant field and some require you to register for an MPhil for the first year, and then transfer to the PhD programme:

• DedPsy - Doctor in Educational Psychology
• EdD - Doctor in Education EdD
• MPhil/PhD in Education
• MPhil/PhD in Social Sciences
• MPhil/PhD in Arts and Humanities
• Special Research Programme (for those wishing to conduct research but without registering for a degree or diploma)

I have a research goal but cannot attend face to face sessions
The Online PhD is a good option if you can't attend the IOE for the research training courses or supervision - for example, if you live outside of London. The programme is entirely online and you can apply whether or not you are based in the UK:

• Online MPhil/PhD

I need training in research methods
We recognise that for some students, studying for a doctoral degree will first require you to develop the necessary skills in research methods, and build your knowledge and confidence. For others, progressing to a PhD is less important and the focus is on developing research skills that will help enhance their professional work. We offer programmes that can help you achieve either of these goals:

• MPhil / PhD With Integrated Research Methods Training
MRes - Educational and Social Research
• PGDip - Postgraduate Diploma in Social Science Research Methods

I have completed a doctoral degree, what next?
If you already have a doctoral qualification and have significant work experience, you may wish to pursue post-doctoral research, or spend time as a researcher at the IOE, or you may need IOE facilities to carry out an investigation that will help you in your career pathway:

• Post-doctoral Research Scholar
