The Department of Early Years and Primary Education (EYPE) is an internationally recognised centre for early childhood and pre-school and primary education studies.

We have a vibrant teaching programme of full and part time courses in initial teacher education and postgraduate and doctoral studies.  We offer five masters courses and three doctoral qualifications in addition to the Primary PGCE.  The Department delivers one of the largest Primary Teach First programmes in the country.

We are active in research and consultancy and we host a number of influential national and international research projects and consultancies.  We also offer a programme of enriching events including research seminars and conferences in the field of early childhood and primary education.

In all our work, we are strongly committed to working in partnership with government agencies, education authorities, schools, early years and community groups and other departments within the Institute's Faculty of Children and Learning.
