Children of the 21st Century Volume 2

Children of the 21st Century: the first five years

Edited by Kirstine Hansen, Heather Joshi and Shirley Dex

The book documents the first five years of life of the children of the Millennium Cohort Study (MCS), which tracks almost 19,000 babies born over a 16-month period between 2000 and 2001 in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. It is based on findings from the first three surveys of the MCS – the first took place when the children were aged 9 months, the second at age 3 and the third at age 5 – and looks at the children's lives and development as they begin formal education, and the implications for family policy and service planning in health and social services.
