KAL - Technology Enhanced Learning in Mathematics
Overview
This project was carried out in partnership with ETL-NKUA (Athens), ITD-CNR (Genova), MeTAH-Leibnitz (Grenoble), DIDIREM (Paris VII) and the
University of Siena.
TELMA is a European Research Team project in the area of technology enhanced learning (TEL) in mathematics supported by the Network of Excellence Kaleidoscope. It brings together six teams with a track record of research related to use of technology in mathematics teaching and learning. Its aim is to foster integration among the participating teams supporting a variety of joint research actions whose output can also be of value for the scientific community inside and outside Kaleidoscope and for the preparation of young researchers in the field (e.g. PhD students).
Methods
At the beginning of TELMA work, integration among the different teams was addressed through colaborative analysis of the work carried out by each team making reference to a: theoretical frameworks, ICT tools designed and/or employed, research methodologies and projects.
To develop better understanding of the role of theroetical frameworks, representations in TEL and contexts in research in TEL, a joint short term project of cross-experimentation was carried out with guidelines jointly developed through on-line collaboration.
A methodological tool for analysis of educational ICT-based systems for mathematics education was developed and applied to a number of such systems.
Results
- a methodological tool for systematic exploration of theoretical frameworks used in TEL in mathematics, including the role of representations provided by technological tools and the contexts in which they are used
- a comparative study of selected Interactive Learning Environments for algebra and arithmetic.
