Doctoral School Summer Conference - Thursday 14 June 2012
If you are a doctoral student at the Institute, at any stage of your research, you are invited to present a paper at the annual Summer Conference held by the Doctoral School. The Summer Conference is an excellent opportunity for you to gain presentation experience and receive valuable feedback from research colleagues. In previous years students have found presenting at the Conference a very useful and enjoyable experience, as well as a good addition to their CV and academic transcript.

The Summer Conference is an ideal opportunity to present your work in a supportive environment to other research students and Institute staff. This will  generate discussion of your work-in-progress and provide some valuable feedback. Guidance is also offered on how to develop the paper for publication.

Students may also register to attend the Conference without presenting a paper, or to chair a session of other presentations. We will send out a call for papers for this Conference closer to the time.

Graduate Seminar November 2012 - details to be posted nearer the time
We invite three of our recent graduates to come along and talk about their research and the methods they adopted. A good chance for a lively and informative discussion for those completing their degrees.

Presenting at conferences is an important academic skill and the Doctoral School Conferences are an excellent opportunity to gain experience presenting research projects as well as an opportunity to add valuable academic credentials to your CV.

Doctoral School Poster Conference - details to be posted nearer the time
The Doctoral School holds its annual Poster Conference in February each year when some of our currently registered doctoral students will be presenting a poster describing their research. As nearly every department is represented at the Conference, it is the ideal event to showcase the diverse and rich range of active research currently being carried out at the Institute. The Conference provides the perfect relaxed, collegial atmosphere for  presenters and the wider Institute community to come together and discuss their research interests.

External conferences
We also encourage our students to seek to present papers at a national or international conference once your  work merits wider presentation. Students will receive help from their supervisor and through workshops to prepare for conferences. Both staff and students present papers at a wide range of external conferences such as:

American Educational Research Association (AERA)
British Educational Research Association (BERA)
British Psychological Society
British Sociological Association
European Educational Research Association (EERA)
Society for Research into Higher Education
