Contemporary Issues in Clinical Education
Course Code:MMACLE_01
This module addresses the unique challenges faced by educators working in today's health service. It is one of the core modules in the interprofessional MA in Clinical Education and provides a contextual backdrop against which other modules of more general educational relevance may be placed. Drawing widely on contemporary research, scholarship and professional practice the module will cover issues around curriculum design and development, selection for clinical education and training, the role of the patient, professionalism and the nature of expertise, interprofessional education, simulation, assessment and life long learning. The module has been developed in partnership with the London Deanery. It will be delivered over a number of evening sessions in the autumn term and two full day workshops. Sessions will involve key readings, expert input, and facilitated discussion. Student presentations will also be included during the module. The module will be of relevance to practitioners of all disciplines involved in education and training in the clinical environment.
The module will be led by Dr Catherine O'Keeffe, senior lecturer in Clinical Education, IOE and Education Lead, Faculty Development, London Deanery.
