Module Aims To enable students to explore the implications of using simulations in education and training To introduce students to theories of perception, knowing, situated and embodied cognition, and their relevance in understanding the implications of using simulations in clinical practice education. To enable student to critically engage with the important debates surrounding the use of simulation in educational settings. To enable students to explore the pedagogical implications of simulation use in clinical practice education. To enable students to critically evaluate the benefits and limitations of using simulations in clinical education. Learning Outcomes At the end of the module students will have: Engaged with important educational debates around the use of simulation technologies in clinical practice education Identified key theories of knowledge and learning of particular relevant to simulation in clinical educational settings Explored the pedagogical dimensions of simulation technologies for clinical educational settings Explored ways of evaluating the benefits and limitations of simulations for education and training Critically reviewed design and research on the role and use of simulation in education.
