This module aims to deepen participants' understanding of the different purposes of assessment and the underlying theoretical concepts in the field. It addresses both summative ('assessment of learning') and formative ('assessment for learning') uses. Some of the key features of summative assessment that will be explored include: validity, standards setting, marking, comparability and grading. Formative issues include validity, learning intentions, feedback and peer/self assessment.
