Innovation and Change in Higher and Professional Education

This module interrogates the changing and contested nature of some aspects of higher and professional education. It is designed to provide an introduction to some key contemporary issues and dominant discourses that inform current policy and practice. It is interdisciplinary, drawing on sociology, philosophy, economics, organisation and management studies, to explore areas such as teaching and learning, access and participation, quality assurance, management and leadership, professionalism, research and globalisation. The sessions include lectures and discussions, and there are opportunities to draw on experiences from professional practice. The module is compulsory for all course members of the MA in Higher and Professional Education, but is also available as a short course to other individuals with interest and involvement in the content.
