Benefits of mentoring and coaching
Mentoring and coaching are powerful developmental relationships enabling people to become more aware of their context and of themselves, to get in touch with their own resources and potential and to think more broadly about actively applying this to create the best outcome for themselves and for others. Benefits of coaching are considerable as underlined by its growing uptake not only in this country but worldwide. A UK Work Foundation survey identified the top 5 benefits being:
- fuller use of individual's talents/potential
- having coaching in organisations demonstrates commitment to the individual and their development
- higher organisational performance/productivity
- increased creativity, learning and knowledge management
- raised motivation
In our view, mentoring and coaching offers:
- space and time away from a busy world to 'reflect and work things though'
- a relationship whose function has been carefully agreed e.g. in terms of expectations, purpose and commitment between all parties involved including the sponsoring organisation where this is relevant
- an opportunity for people to grow and flourish - to see themselves and the world in new ways - to be focused and supported in achieving their goals ultimate benefit to the people served by our clients.
