Equal Access to Promotion (EAP)
EAP has been jointly developed by the National College and the National Union of Teachers (NUT). The professional development programme is designed to meet the specific leadership needs of Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) school leaders and to support them in moving to senior leadership roles.
Eligibility
Participants will typically have between 4 and 12 years of teaching experience since gaining QTS and will not have participated in previous EAP programmes. Participants will typically have current or previous experience of other national leadership development programmes, including; National College's Leadership Pathways or Leading from the Middle (LftM) programmes or NUT Continuing Professional Development's 'Aspiring to Lead'.
The five aims of the EAP programme are to:
- provide structured networking and support opportunities for BME leaders with a focus on effective leadership
- enhance participants' leadership strengths and extend their strategies for overcoming barriers to promotion
- boost participants' knowledge of current and future career and leadership development opportunities
- equip participants through the study of leadership to raise their influence as leaders in schools in order to impact on student learning and well-being
- encourage BME teachers in middle leadership positions to seek senior leadership roles and positions in schools
