Urban Leadership

City Schools, City Leaders, City Communities An Agenda for Action
Led by Professor Kathryn Riley

"Kathryn Riley's work has helped to create a language to talk about school and community. It encourages the unwarranted optimism, endless intellectual curiosity, sense of fun and complete absence of paranoia which urban leaders need". Professor Tim Brighouse, Commissioner for London Schools.

This Agenda for Action has four strands and focuses on leadership and learning in our rich and diverse city schools. It connects to Government initiatives (e.g. Every Child Matters and Young London Matters), draws on the most up to date knowledge from research and best practice, and has a strong developmental focus. Join us to:

• Explore new ideas
• Strengthen links with communities
• Be purposeful about your own leadership
• Network with colleagues
• Make a difference to the lives of children and young people in our city schools

Strand I
Bringing City Leaders Together to Learn Together
Based on the flourishing research and development project 'Leadership on the Front-line', this brings together schools leaders across the UK to develop greater understanding about the context and challenges for urban leadership. It includes research-based activities on pupils' perspectives, city-based meetings and residential development conferences, with linked school visits.
