The Short Courses Unit, delivering CPD from the IOE, is ideally situated being based in the centre of London.

The IOE is one of the UK's top research institutions and has excellent teaching with an unique understanding of working in education in urban settings. We are able to offer organisations tailored training to their individual development needs, for all phases in educaton and subject areas. This can be at the Institute or in your own setting. Tutors and academics from the IOE can offer full-day, half-day or twilight sessions starting after school.

Creative Curriculum

An IOE Academic working in a one form entry Primary School, one day a week for the summer term (10 days) culminating in the academic leading three performances for parents and children. She worked alongside the year 6 class teacher who had chosen a school musical for the children to present at the end of the school year to parents, governors and rest of the school.  She planned curriculum input in English, Maths, PE, Music and Art for 10 days (some musical activities with Y5 who formed a 'choir') leading to the performance of the musical.

Child Development

Two three hour twilight sessions on child development which was developed for this independent Montessori school and reflected elements of a Montessori approach situated in the wider issues of child development.  Knowledge gained was referenced back to the particular practices in the school and participants and tutor discussed challenges and other responses with regard to children's behaviour.
