About our teacher training
Courses start in September each year. (See our term times). The application process opens 12 months beforehand, on 1 September. We advise you to apply as soon as possible, as many of our PGCE courses fill up quickly.
Qualified teacher status
Our Primary and Secondary PGCE and PgCE qualifications carry a recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). And our Post-compulsory PGCE and Diploma qualifications lead to a recommendation for Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status.
Qualifications
Students on our PGCE courses, depending on their grades, graduate with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at masters degree level or a Professional Certificate in Education (PgCE) at honours degree level. Students on our post-compulsory courses can also opt for routes leading to a Diploma in Education at foundation degree level.
Those who graduate will:
- receive an award of the Institute of Education, University of London, and
- be invited to a graduation ceremony.
Masters degree
All our PGCE courses carry 60 masters-level credits. To gain an IOE masters degree, our newly qualified teachers need only study for a further 120 masters-level credits. (You can achieve this part-time, within one to five years of your PGCE, depending on the intensity of your study).
